Uruguay Perdiz

When one thinks of Argentina wingshooting, or bird hunting in Uruguay, the first thing that comes to mind is the high-volume shooting that is native to both countries for doves, ducks, geese, and even Spotwing and Pica Zuro pigeons.  The Perdiz, a partridge-like bird about the same size as a quail, is sometimes overlooked. 

To overlook the Perdiz, or to write it off from an Argentina bird hunt, or Uruguay hunting trip would be a mistake in our opinion.  Every one of our clients who have been Perdiz hunting in Uruguay has told us that it was some of the most challenging upland bird hunting they have ever done, and that they were very glad that they chose to give it a try. 

Los Gauchos had another great Perdiz hunting season. Uruguay dove hunting is still available and ready for wingshooters, but you will have to wait until next season to add the Perdiz hunting. Join Los Gauchos at one of our several Perdiz hunting sites - and add to the Uruguay dove hunting - duck hunting - or make it the best of Uruguay and combine with dorado fishing, ducks, pigeons, doves.

The intensity of the dogs, the anticipation of the flush, and the challenge of the low and hard flight of a flushed Perdiz make this shoot a classic upland bird hunting experience.  The birds are adroit at dodging and banking at just the right (or wrong, if you are the shooter) time, often causing a miss from the first shot from The Guns.

But don’t fret, getting on target with Perdiz is not that hard.  After a few flushes, the hunter learns to expect the unexpected, and once it comes as no surprise that birds can frequently flush straight into the dog and handler—perfectly flying right behind the shooter—one can more easily anticipate the shot, and be more confident that there is no hurry to take the shot.  Exercising a generous amount of patience, as usual, pays off when one is Perdiz hunting—and those who possess Oriental patience excel in Perdiz hunting because rushing the shot almost always results in a duff. 

Every upland bird hunter has a breed of dog that is his or her favorite, and Perdiz hunting is no different.  Fortunately for the shooters, good Perdiz hunting outfitters in Argentina and Uruguay typically have a variety of dogs in their kennel for the hunters to choose from: English Setters, Lemon Pointers, German Shorthairs, and even weimaraners.

Simply let your Perdiz hunting guides know what breed of dog you prefer to hunt over, and more likely than not, your wishes will be accommodated.
